Western products allow companies to get the most out of their vehicle scale investment by meeting the demands of rugged, industrial environments while maintaining the highest level of accuracy and functionality.
Indicators, Remote Displays, Custom Systems and other scale equipment give Scale Technicians the flexibility they need to get the job done as customer requirements evolve.
Other Vehicle Weighing applications include Axle-Weighing, Portable Vehicle Weighing, Multi-Deck Scale Systems, and Unattended Weighing / Automatic Ticketing Systems.
Weighing railcars is an essential process for tracking material inventories and improving operational efficiency and safety....
Weighing railcars is an essential process for tracking material inventories and for facilities looking to improve operational efficiency and safety. Western indicators and scoreboards are used for standard railroad platform scales (Pit Type and Above-ground), Combination Railroad/Truck Scales, Rail truck axle scales and in-line, track-integrated scales.
Western M2000 and APX indicators are NTEP Class IIIL and Measurement Canada Class IIIHD approved for Legal For Trade railcar weighing.
Indicators
The APX indicator is capable of performing Full Draft or Double Draft weighments and Railcar In/Out with ID and tare database. For in-line scale applications, individual wheel weights may be displayed and color-coded for easy viewing and load balancing. Visual alarms for overloads may be programmed and all data integrated with Rail Yard control systems.
Remote Displays
Aurora Remote Displays communicate scale weight to yard staff.
Aurora ALPHA Message Displays may be used to help operators position cars on the scales.

Axle scales are utilized by trucking companies and other businesses to ensure safe and efficient vehicle loading and compliance with highway weight restrictions. Road Safety Authorities also use them for monitoring and enforcement. Western offers a number of manual and automatic axle weighing solutions.
While all Western indicators support manual weighing and accumulation of individual axles, using an APX or adding a SMART1 to an existing indicator can make the process completely automatic. Best paired with an Aurora 45-SL remote display, drivers are guided through the axle weighing process with the red/green traffic light. Additional prompts notify the driver of the recorded axle weights and totals. Systems can even be configured to provide:
- Transaction records stored to USB or transferred to external software
- Truck In/Out functionality with gross, tare and net weight totals along with axle weights
- Remote printout stations and more…
Aurora Remote Displays also feature their own set of axle weighing programs for operations on a tight budget. Available for axle scales and either driving on or off a full-size truck scale, the displays use their own algorithm to determine axle weights and totals, displaying the captured values to drivers before resetting to the live scale weight.
A Western axle weighing system can help businesses achieve the most efficient truck loading methods to reduce maintenance costs, avoid fines and maximize safety.
Western systems are capable of standalone batching and filling operations found in bulk material handling and processing...
Batching & Filling
Scales are often at the center of bulk material handling, processing, and mixing operations. Western instruments can perform standalone batching and filling operations (manual or automatic) or interface with established PLC control systems to provide reliable scale data.
Western equipment is designed to be versatile and scaleable, ideal for both small bag filling operations and multi-scale batching facilities. Customized programming looks to simplify the process with consistent, repeatable results while achieving plant-specific requirements.
Western’s long track record has resulted in a program library of M2000/SMART1 and APX systems suitable for many applications including:
Loss-In-Weight
Gain-In-Weight
Bulk powder bagging
Paint mixing and filling
Seed & Feed recipes / dispensing
Concrete & Asphalt Batch Controllers
Dairy Systems
Truck and Railcar Filling (Loadout)
Common features include:
Reporting, USB and PC Uploads
Free falls, corrective JAN
Any number of ingredients and recipes
Single or Multi-Scale
Single or Multi-Draft
Integration with other equipment and systems
ModBus TCP/IP and Ethernet IP protocols
Read process status sensors from other equipment (inputs)
Trigger process actions in other equipment (outputs)
